Density = occurrences of the phrase divided by the number of words in the text. Thresholds used here: single words optimal 0.5–2.5%, too high above 4%; 2-word phrases optimal 0.2–1.5%, too high above 3%; 3-word phrases optimal 0.1–1%, too high above 2%. There is no official limit from Google: these are orientation values, and natural language matters more than any percentage.

How Keyword Density Is Measured

This keyword density checker counts how often a word or phrase appears in your text and relates it to the total number of words. Paste the text, choose single words, 2-word or 3-word phrases, and you get a table of the twenty most frequent entries with count, density in percent, the position of the first occurrence and a verdict: too low, optimal, high or too high. Built-in stop word lists for English and German remove the, and, of, der, die, das and friends so the table shows content words instead of grammar; switch the list off to see raw counts. The thresholds are visible in the note above and in the code: they are orientation values, not rules from Google. The tool counts tokens and does not analyze meaning, entities or search intent. The top list can be copied as text or exported as CSV.
